Hi Kia, I really feel the love in this post, and I completely relate. I met my first 'soul dog' sixteen years ago. He was a black Labrador called Mac, and I honestly felt I could never love another dog like that - our bond was so special.

I'm happy to tell you, that we DO get the opportunity to have more than one soul dog in this lifetime! A week after losing Mac (at fourteen years old) we brought a new puppy into our world. I didn't have any expectations for him to 'replace' Mac in any way. But I can tell you that he has well and truly filled the cavernous space left by my special boy. He is 100% my soul dog, (his name is Maverick) but in his own unique way. He is equally special. Even possibly a little bit more so, because he had such big shoes to fill - he had to be EXTRA special.

So I hope this is reassuring for you. I know that as Mac got older, my husband and I dreaded the day he was no longer around, unable to imagine life without him. We still sense him, and get little signs from him too. The ultimate soul dog.

PS. Simba is gorgeous 😍

Thank you so much Melissa! This is so beautifully said. I’m happy to know that you and others believe that we do get more than one soul dog in our lifetime even if that bond is just a tad bit different. Thanks for sharing 🫶🏾

I love everything about this post. Sammy was my first dog as an adult. He was an itty bitty sheltie, likely bred at a puppy mill to be a "teacup sheltie." I was home number four for him. The people I adopted him from said they chose me because they didn't want him bounced around anymore and they thought I was the person most likely to keep him forever. That was in 2012. I lost him in 2021 and it still makes me cry. He was my boy through and through. I didn't even have to tell him what I wanted him to do - I'd just snap a finger and he'd know what I meant. Don't get me wrong, he was a hard dog. He had severe anxiety, really bad allergies, a health crisis every year (thanks, puppy mill breeding practices!), and a bark that felt like an ice pick in my brain. Many people told me he was a dog only his mother could love, lol. But man, did I love that little guy. I hope I get more than one soul dog, but if I only get one, I'm still grateful.

What a fun post! I smiled reading it because it is so spot on true. My first soul dog, Snickers, was introduced me to the concept of dog love. Unfortunately, he passed real young. Maggie was then my best buddy and pawmate for thirteen wonderful years. She taught me so much. Thank you for your post.

I LOVE the pictures! I also have had more than one soul dog. All five of my rescues, who have crossed the bridge, were soulmates. Xena saved me during a challenging time with her love and her coping with her traumatic beginnings; Mighty was my best friend who was up for any adventure; Ernie was my heart dog who was all love all the time; Odie was my soulmate who had such a deep connection; and Muttley was my bliss. I’m deepening my relationships with my two new rescues, Sophie and Ruby. I feel so blessed to have had time with all my dogs.

I know that you do get more than one 'soul dog', or 'soul animal'. However, the part of your soul that gets touched, is different each time.
