Whew! January is finally about to be over. I was feeling like January must be counting in dog years or something. I mean sheesh! January just felt so long and a bit much. Here’s to a better month!
February Book Club Pick
February is Black History month so this month’s book club read will be by a Black author. We are kicking off the Dog Moms Only Book Club with Two Parts Sugar, One Part Murder by Valerie Burns!

About the Book

How to Participate in the Book Club
Introduce yourself and your furkid(s) in the Dog Moms Only Book Club Lobby chat thread. Share a photo of you together (if you don’t have one of you together, that’s ok, just share a photo of you and then of your dog or just of your dog..however you wanna do it. However I do encourage you to take a photo with your dog if you don’t have one. You should have photos of you and your dog to always have those memories. I also encourage you to share photos because we wanna see your dog of course!)
Once you have introduced yourself, see who else has introduced themselves in the lobby chat thread and just simply hold their message to reply to welcome them and tap an emoji icon to show some love/react.
Next head over to the kickoff chat thread and view our book of the month. You’ll see what we will be reading and you can chime in on how excited you are to start reading the book and what your thoughts are based on the description of the book. Feel free to leave any suggestions here for the book club as well.
You can let us know how you’ll be reading the book. Will you be listening? Will you be reading on your Kindle? Will you be reading a physical copy? Share a photos of you and your furkid with your book when you get it or while you’re reading. Aw! I can’t wait to see!Once you have the book, start reading! You can follow the schedule below (for example I’ll be done reading chapters 1-8 by February 6th) or you can read at your own pace. If you read at your own pace, don’t jump in the chat thread or discussion posts until you’ve caught up because there will be spoilers! I will make a separate chat thread and discussion post each week for each section of chapters based on the schedule and you can share your thoughts there.
Join me LIVE on my Dog Mom POV YouTube channel every Thursday at 6PM or 8 PM EST (vote in the poll below to decide). We will discuss the chapters we have read so far for the week in real time as I thought that would be fun! I’ll also give away a few stickers or dog mom pins during the live to those who are participating live.
Once we see how that goes, we can discuss doing a Zoom or Google Meet where we can all see each other and our furkids for next month’s book if you’d like!
Once we decide on a time, I’ll schedule the lives and update this post with the links. I’ll also send out a reminder email that day as well.In the last week of February, we will have a poll to decide which book we want to read next. Remember, our book club picks will always feature a dog in the story. If you have any suggestions for our next book let us know in the Club Lobby.
